On November 17, the US Embassy in Hanoi announced that the US had declared an emergency aid of 500,000 USD to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of Typhoons Fengshen and Kalmaegi, focusing on helping families and communities most severely affected ensure essential needs such as temporary shelter and clean water.
This support follows the $500,000 package that the US provided in October to help Vietnam cope with previous storms.
The US recognizes the huge scale of damage that Vietnamese people are facing after two consecutive storms, and pledges to continue supporting the relief efforts led by Vietnam.
US-Vietnam relations are based on common priorities, including maintaining a free, open and stable Indo-Pacific region. The strong links between the two peoples, strengthened by the vibrant community of Vietnamese-American people, continue to play an important role in bilateral relations.
According to the US side, this aid demonstrates the deep attachment between the people of the two countries and Washington's commitment to US-Vietnam relations, with the expectation of helping to reduce difficulties, increase response capacity in the crisis and together move towards a sustainable future with better resilience.
