Record heatwaves will continue in many regions around the world

The high pressure dome keeps the Sahara hot air covering Europe until early July, while many regions in Asia are also experiencing intense heat.

On June 23-24, France recorded temperatures up to 43-45 degrees Celsius in the central, northern, western and southwest regions, threatening to break the June temperature record and even the all-time record at some measurement stations.

The French Brittany region, which rarely has hot weather, can also reach 42-45 degrees Celsius. Dry wind combined with hot weather creates the "hair dryer" effect, causing plants to lose water quickly, increasing the risk of forest fires.

In the UK, temperatures are forecast to reach 40-41 degrees Celsius in the south on June 25, an unprecedented temperature, forcing the meteorological agency to issue a rare red warning. Belgium, the Netherlands and western Germany are also forecast to be at 40-41 degrees Celsius in the period from June 23-25.

Spain recorded a peak of 44 degrees Celsius on June 23-24 and then slightly decreased, Portugal maintained a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. From the end of the week to the following week, the hottest region shifted to Germany, Denmark, Northern Europe, Poland, the Baltic, then the Czech Republic and the Alps. Italy and the Balkan peninsula also increased in temperature, reaching 30 to 40 degrees Celsius at the end of the following week.

The reason is a high pressure dome, called "Omega Block", holding a dry hot air mass from the Sahara pressing on Europe, expected to last until early July, with no signs of interruption. Medical experts warn of the "tropical night" phenomenon, when the temperature does not drop below 24 degrees Celsius, causing the body to have no time to recover, increasing the risk of heatstroke.

In Asia, Vietnam is experiencing intense heat and especially intense heat in the North and Central regions on June 23-25, with common temperatures of 37-40 degrees Celsius.

India, according to the expanded forecast from June 26 to July 2, will not experience "hot nights" but the lowest nighttime temperature is higher than normal by 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius in the northwest including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, along with the central and eastern regions including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh. The highest daytime temperature has not changed much until June 28. The southwest monsoon is moving deeper into Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar in the next 48 hours, which may help locally cool down.

China and Japan have no specific daily forecasts for next week, but summer forecasts show that China will be 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius hotter than the multi-year average, Japan is about 1.5 degrees Celsius hotter. Meteorologists in the two countries predict that this summer will be harsher than in previous years.
