Russian air defense forces shot down 297 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over many areas last night, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on September 22. As a result of the raid, 1 civilian was killed and 4 others were injured in the Samara region in southwestern Russia.
According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the UAVs were shot down in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov, Ulyanovsk regions and the Crimean peninsula.
In the Rostov region in southern Russia alone, air defense forces shot down more than 70 UAVs, with no casualties, Governor Yury Slusar announced on Telegram. In the Voronezh region, 28 UAVs were destroyed, according to Governor Alexander Gusev. The Ulyanovsk region recorded 4 UAVs shot down, Governor Alexey Russkikh said.
Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fyodorishchev said that Russian forces repelled the UAV attack on the area at night, but 1 civilian was killed and 4 were injured. Civil facilities, including private houses and vehicles, were damaged. Emergency response forces are overcoming the consequences.
In the city of Samara, the glass of several houses, the roof of a building and a car were damaged, city leader Ivan Noskov said, while affirming that functional agencies are present to support people.
The government of Novokuybyshevsk city in the Samara region, citing Mayor Viktoria Katkova, said that Russian forces had stopped a UAV attack targeting an industrial facility here.
In Voronezh, a private house was damaged by debris from a downed UAV, no casualties, Governor Gusev announced.
In the early morning of September 22, a UAV exploded in the sky over the town of Rasskazovo in the Tambov region, local authorities said. Debris fell into the grass, but there were no casualties or damage.
