RT reported that on May 22, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian air defense forces had shot down a total of 485 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the past 48 hours in many areas across Russia.
An announcement on the Russian Defense Ministry's Telegram channel shows that Ukraine began a large-scale airstrike from the evening of May 21 (local time), in which the three provinces on the Russian border, Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk, were recorded as having to suffer the most UAVs.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine even attacked the capital Moscow directly. There were 63 UAVs shot down during the Ukraine's large-scale airstrike.
In addition to UAVs, Russian air defense forces are also believed to have intercepted several JDAM guided bombs and HIMARS missiles.
Residents in the suburbs of Moscow have posted many videos showing Ukrainian UAVs flying towards the city. At least one video is believed to record the moment a UAV was detonated in the air.
Evgeniya Khrustaleva, head of Domodedovo district, said in a Telegram post that a piece of UAV debris fell into a kindergarten grounds on May 21, forcing all children and staff there to evacuate.
Ms. Ksenia Mishonova, a child rights Commissioner in Moscow, told TASS news agency that there were 98 children in kindergarten at the time of the incident. She confirmed that no one was injured.
Russian media reported that Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo airports in Moscow have been suspended several times due to airstrikes, causing serious flight delays.
The same situation occurred at all major Moscow airports in early May, right before the 80th anniversary of the German victory over Germany in World War II.
