Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said that Western countries are urging Kiev to carry out a large-scale sabotage operation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which could kill many Ukrainian citizens and the European Union (EU), and then blame Moscow.
According to the SVR, one of the proposals that countries supporting Kiev consider the more effective is to carry out serious sabotage actions that cause great casualties for civilians.
The West is reportedly considering the possibility of staging a crash at the Zaporizhzhia plant - Europe's largest nuclear facility. Accordingly, SVR predicted that the plan would create a reaction core melting incident.
SVR said that British research agency Chatham House had calculated the consequences of this scenario in advance and determined that people in areas controlled by Kiev, as well as some EU areas near the western border of Ukraine, would be in the radi radiationcast area.
According to the SVR, Chatham House has noted that the most difficult part of the plot is how to hold Russia accountable for the disaster.
SVR added that Chatham House is also preparing arguments for all possible developments, to ensure that Western public opinion is determined to side with Kiev in determining the right party to be held responsible if an accident occurs.
SVR said the plan is similar to the Malaysia Airlines MH17 tragedy in 2014, when the plane crashed in eastern Ukraine, killing 298 people. Ukraine and its Western allies have blamed Russia, while Moscow has repeatedly denied it, saying the plane shot down by a missile was only in Kiev's arsenal.
The SVR concluded that the West is working together to accuse Russia, justify its post-Russian policy and continue to incite conflict, despite potential human losses.
