Germany's refusal to receive gas through the still operating Nord Stream pipeline cannot be explained by reasonable economic calculations, because Berlin is forced to buy energy at very high prices, said Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council (Russian Senate), in an interview with TASS General Director Andrey Kondrashov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
For Nord Stream 1, it is difficult to understand why people refuse to use this pipeline. How can they explain to the people that: "We will continue to buy gas, oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) at prices 3-4 times higher, reducing the competitiveness of the economy and making people's lives worse?" - Ms. Matviyenko asked.
Russian Senate Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko also said that the West is silent about the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. According to the Russian female politician, the Nord Stream project benefits all participating parties.
The pipeline system has been destroyed but there is almost no response. Some suspects have been identified, the involvement of Ukraine is clear, but no measures have been taken" - Ms. Matviyenko said.
