The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 20 that in the past 24 hours, the Russian army has controlled two residential areas in the Donetsk region within the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine.
Units of the Southern Operations Group have liberated the Nikolaipolye residential area of the Donetsk People's Republic, units of the Central Operations Group have liberated the Matyashevo residential area of the Donetsk People's Republic through drastic actions," the Ministry said in a statement.
The control of the settlement of Matyashevo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) on August 20 allowed Russian armed forces to cut off the supply line of the Ukrainian army and create conditions for further advances in the direction of Dobropolye, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.
According to this agency, soldiers of the Pskov Guard Airborne Unit of the Russian Central Operations Group have taken control of Matyashevo in combat operations in the direction of Dobropolye.
Controlling Matyashevo allows cutting off enemy logistics lines and creates conditions for Russian units to advance further in the direction of Dobropolye within the framework of the special military operation," the Russian Ministry of Defense statement stated.
The direction of Dobropolye in recent times has been one of the areas where Moscow has concentrated forces, with military fronts to gradually close the siege and isolate Ukrainian troop groups defending here.
