On October 21 (local time), the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the arrest of a Russian citizen in Moscow for suspected collection and transmission of military information to Ukrainian intelligence.
According to the FSB, the man, who is in his 20s, visited Ukraine in 2019-2020, where he met with members of the country's armed forces.
The suspect was accused of sharing information about the locations of Russian air defense systems in Moscow and Krasnodar region through social media after the conflict began to escalate in 2022.
The FSB said the coordinates provided by the person were later used to attack military targets with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The agency also released a video recording the arrest and questioning of the suspect, in which he admitted to having traveled to Ukraine, participated in political protests and then cooperated with the Ukrainian military and intelligence forces.
A criminal case has been prosecuted for treason, the highest sentence can be up to life in prison. The court issued an order to temporarily detain the suspect during the investigation.
The FSB warned that Ukrainian intelligence agencies are still recruiting Russian citizens through social networks and messaging apps, while calling on people to be vigilant and not giving in to this type of provincecation to avoid criminal prosecution for participating in illegal activities.
