"If there is any aggressive action against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, all necessary measures will be taken in accordance with our laws, in accordance with the laws of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko answered a question from TASS on October 15.
Rudenko said that those effective terms are contained in the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and North Korea, which was submitted to the Russian State Duma (lower house) for ratification on October 14.
"The treaty clearly states everything in Articles 3 and 4. The treaty has been signed, so it will be made public," Rudenko said.
"Article 4 of the treaty refers to mutual assistance in case of aggression. Accordingly, the parties will provide each other with any necessary assistance, including military assistance, in case one of the two sides is attacked" - the Deputy Minister explained.
On October 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and North Korea to the State Duma for ratification.
The treaty was signed in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024 during Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to North Korea.
The treaty states that the parties maintain and develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership based on the principles of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, without interference in internal affairs, taking into account each side's national laws and international obligations. The parties seek to establish global strategic stability and a fair multipolar international system.
The treaty states that in case one side is at risk of being attacked by armed forces, the other side - upon request - will immediately activate bilateral channels for consultations to coordinate positions and agree on measures to remove the threat.
In case Russia or North Korea is attacked by one or more armed countries and falls into a state of war, the other side will immediately provide military and other assistance by all possible measures in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and under the laws of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
