The strongest earthquake in " decades" off Russia's Kamchatka peninsula occurred on July 30. No casualties were reported, but evacuation orders were issued for a small town in the Sakhalin region due to a Tsunami warning.
"Today's earthquake was very serious and the strongest in decades," Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said in a video posted on the Telegram app.
He said that according to preliminary information, there were no casualties but a kindergarten was damaged.
Sakhalin Governor Valery Limarenko said that evacuation orders were issued for the small town of Severo- Kurilsk after a Tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake.
The 8.7 term richter that occurred off the coast of Russia on July 30 also activated a Tsunami warning in Alaska and Hawaii, USA.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred about 137km east of Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, with a depth of nearly 19km.
A warning has been issued for the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and Hawaii. California, Oregon and Washington are being monitored for the typhoon. In the US territory of Guam, the Tsunami threat is being assessed.
The first typhoon is forecast to hit Hawaii at around 7:15 p.m. on July 29, local time (12:15 a.m. on July 30). According to the Oahu Emergency Management Agency, devastating sunsones are expected.
People are advised to evacuate from coastal areas. According to the National Weather Service, all of the island's coasts are at risk of sunsets.
"The danger could last for hours after the first wave as the next one arrives. The height of the Tsunami is unpredictable and the first wave may not be the largest," the National Weather Service warned.
A Tsunami warning has also been issued for Japan's Pacific coastal areas, from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that the first typhoon is expected to hit Hokkaido around 10am on July 30, local time, with other waves hitting the area later in the day along the areas of Honshu and Kyushu.
People are advised to stay away from the coast and river mouths, not get close to the water surface to observe.
Taiwan (China) has also issued a Tsunami warning.
The area east of Petropavlovsk- Kamchatsky, Russia, where the strong earthquake occurred on July 30 is known as Kuril- Kamchatka's arc.
The Kuril- Kamchatka Rainforest is prone to moderate to major earthquakes, according to the Geological Survey. Over the past 100 years, there have been 31 other earthquakes with an intensity of 6.5 richter or more recorded within a range of 250km since the earthquake on July 30.
According to the US Geological Survey, the 7.4 Category Richter earthquake recorded here on July 20 was considered a prelude to the July 30 earthquake.
The center of the earthquake on July 30 was located about 45km southeast of the center of the Kamchatka earthquake with an intensity of 9.0 on November 4, 1952.
The 1952 earthquake caused sunsones across the Pacific Ocean, creating 9.1 m high waves in Hawaii.
