On May 27 (Moscow time), according to TASS news agency, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy - Admiral Alexander Moiseyev affirmed that Russia will continue to maintain its ability to own modern submarines of all types in the future.
The speech was made at the opening ceremony of the exhibition celebrating the 330th anniversary of the Russian Navy and the 120th anniversary of the Russian submarine force, held at the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg.
Russia is one of the few countries that not only has the ability but also always owns the most modern submarines of all types. First of all, nuclear submarines and non-nuclear submarines," Mr. Moiseyev said.
According to the Commander of the Russian Navy, Moscow is also in the group of very few countries that maintain the naval component of the strategic nuclear force through ballistic missile submarines.
Mr. Moiseyev said that this capacity is the result of many decades of development in the domestic military ship design and construction industry, along with a crew training system and experience in deploying naval forces in real combat.
This is a great common achievement of all those who have created, built and deployed the Navy and submarine force for the glory of the Fatherland," he added.
Russia currently owns one of the largest submarine fleets in the world with many classes of strategic nuclear submarines and modern attack submarines. Among them, ballistic missile submarines are considered key components in Russia's nuclear deterrent triad, alongside ground-based intercontinental ballistic missiles and strategic air forces.
In recent years, Moscow has continuously invested in modernizing its navy, especially new generation nuclear submarines carrying ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. Many submarine development programs of the Borei and Yasen class are being promoted by Russia to enhance strategic deterrence capabilities and long-range combat.
Military analysts say that submarine forces continue to play a particularly important role in Russia's defense strategy thanks to their ability to operate secretly, carry nuclear weapons and maintain counter-attack capabilities in the event of large-scale conflict.
The latest statements from Russian officials are made in the context of increasing military competition between Russia and NATO, especially in Europe, the Arctic and strategic sea areas.
