Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the above information at the World Economic Forum in Davos, although he had previously signaled that he might not attend the forum to focus on solving urgent domestic issues.
The US delegation will arrive in Moscow today (January 22). They have been waiting for our meeting with President Donald Trump, and now they will leave. My group will meet the US group. I think it will be the first trilateral meeting in the UAE" - Mr. Zelensky said, but did not specify whether Russia will directly participate in the upcoming talks.
To date, neither Russia nor the US has confirmed information about the "impending" trilateral talks. The UAE has also not made any official statements related to it.
The idea of organizing trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States at different representative levels is seen as a consistent part of US President Donald Trump's efforts to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict.
In August last year, Mr. Trump declared that a trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leaders "will take place".
At that time, Moscow said that the preparations for such a meeting were not "really positive". Russia repeatedly signaled that, although it did not oppose the meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky, this event should only be considered the final stage of the negotiation process, when specific progress on peace has been made.
According to RT, on January 22, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy, Mr. Steve Witkoff, arrived in Moscow and is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss resolving the Ukraine conflict. Mr. Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, participated in the trip with Mr. Witkoff.
Mr. Witkoff first announced the meeting with President Putin on January 21, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. He said the meeting was proposed by Russia after there has been "great progress" in Ukrainian peace talks in recent weeks, although the territorial issue is still a key point.
The Russian side invited us to come. And that is an important statement from them," Mr. Witkoff told reporters, adding: "I think all parties are participating in this process and want to see a peace agreement implemented.
According to Mr. Witkoff, negotiations with President Putin will be based on Washington's 20-point peace plan. "I believe that we are now moving towards agreements on land issues," he added.
The US Special Envoy said he had met directly with President Putin at least 6 times in 2025 as part of efforts to promote peace talks. The most recent meeting, lasting about 5 hours, took place on December 2nd.
At that time, Russian Presidential Assistant Yury Ushakov said "no compromise has been found", while noting that "some US proposals are acceptable to Russia, but others are not.
