Excessive protests in the capital Chile led to clashes with police and robberies in supermarkets on the evening of October 18. Excessive masked protests burned down police headquarters and a church that evening, according to RT.
Although firefighters and even sometioners tried to put out the fire at the Iglesia de la Asuncion, the tower of the church was eventually burned down and collapsed in the fire.

While San Francisco de Borja is a regular venue for Chile's national police ceremony, Asuncion is one of the oldest such such such such such a thing in the capital of Chile, having existed for more than 150 years.
Chilean Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Consuelo Valdes said on October 18 on his Twitter: " outraged and saddened by the fire and devastation of La Asuncion Cathedral and the attack on San Francisco de Borja Cathedral - both of which are heritage buildings."
According to Chilean officials, the October 18 protest in the capital Santiago attracted no more than 25,000 protests during its peak, much smaller than the unrest in 2019, which led to strict orders and military patrols on the streets.
