On October 21, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said many countries in the world are expressing their desire to buy BrahMos hypersonic cruise missiles after seeing the effectiveness of this weapon in the conflict with Pakistan earlier this year, according to RT.
Speaking to Navy officers on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier during the Diwali holiday, Mr. Modi emphasized that the name BrahMos has made many people wary.
Mr. Modi said that the BrahMos missile and the Akash air defense system demonstrated outstanding capabilities in the campaign nicknamed "Sindoor", lasting 4 days.
This success not only strengthens confidence in India's military power but also makes many countries interested in owning this type of cooperation weapon between Russia and India.
BrahMos is a joint venture between BrahMos Aerospace of India and NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia, named after the Brahmaputra and Moscow rivers. The Indian Defense Research and Development Organization holds a 50.5% stake, while the Russian side owns 49.5%.
Mr. Modi's statement was made not long after the first batch of missiles manufactured at the BrahMos Institute and Inspection Center in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was handed over to the army.
The facility is a key part of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor, which was inaugurated online by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in May.
According to the Indian Ministry of National Defense, the first batch of missiles is ready to deploy after only 5 months of operation. Mr. Singh said that the BrahMos development group has signed contracts worth about 450 million USD with the two countries, and predicted that the revenue of the Lucknow facility will reach about 340 million USD by 2026.
At a recent defense exhibition, Mr. Modi affirmed that India is continuing to strengthen its sustainable partnership over time with Russia, in which BrahMos is a prominent symbol of effective cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense technology.
