Looking back at the world in 2025

Ngạc Ngư |

Looking back at the developments in all aspects of the world in 2025, the general feeling can only be a mixture of deep concerns and certain optimism.

Deep concern because the world is much more uneasy and unstable than last year, because both world politics and international relations have been volatile and fundamentally and deeply disrupted unprecedentedly in the past 1-2 decades. It is possible to identify 5 factors that made the world like this in 2025.

First is the increasing conflict and armed conflict. Two conflicts that broke out in the past continue to dominate and haunt the world in 2025. The conflict in Ukraine continues to be fierce, still far from a conclusion even though diplomatic activity is much more active in the direction of finding a peaceful political solution.

The war in the Gaza Strip has a ceasefire agreement, but it cannot be considered an end when phase 1 has not been fully implemented and the future of the next phases remains uncertain.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with Hezbollah in Lebanon and with the Houthi faction in Yemen continues. The political change in Syria is also a new event with an uncertain outcome because the risk of civil war is still very high. Meanwhile, it is not yet known how Syria will change the direction of the situation and political security situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region in the near future.

All other regions in the world are not as politically and securityally stable as last year. Mr. Trump has prepared politically and militarily and has prepared public opinion to be ready to act with Venezuela. Pakistan is in conflict with both India and Afghanistan. Thailand and Cambodia have disagreements on the border.

In Africa, the wave of military coups continues. Terrorism is still haunting African and European countries. This anxiety and instability may continue to increase in the coming year.

Second is the return to power of US President Donald Trump, with many and very fundamental changes in the US, as well as stirring up the world with tariff wars, with attacks on Iran, with military actions targeting Syria, Yemen and many African countries. Mr. Trump's policies and ruling actions have a very strong impact on the developments and situation of international relations in 2025, and will remain the same in the coming year.

Third, the world economy and trade in 2025 will grow slowly and unstable without leading leaders. The reasons come from trade wars, increasing conflicts and strategic competition between the EU, the US and China, while many economies have not yet adapted to a disadvantageous economic and political environment. However, the outlook for next year is assessed to be more optimistic.

Fourth, 2025 is the year that artificial intelligence (AI) promotes the conquest of humanity and the world, demonstrates its value and influence, strongly promotes the role of high technology in the modern world, creating a premise for even stronger development in the coming year.

Fifth, slow progress, even stagnation, in the work of solving common global problems and sudden natural disasters further darken the darkness in the picture of the world in 2025. This also signals that next year will be more unpredictable.
