In a satirical move targeting US President Donald Trump's ambition to buy Greenland, the " Denmarkification" fundraising group in Denmark has proposed spending $1 trillion with unlimited supply of cakes to buy California - RT reported.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to buy Greenland - an autonomous territory of Denmark - because of the strategic importance and rich resources of this island. Mr. Trump even hinted at the possibility of using military and economic power to achieve his goals. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stressed last month that buying Greenland was a serious goal and "not a joke". However, both Copenhagen and Greenland have rejected the idea.
In response, the " Denmarkification" group proposed buying California - which Donald Trump himself described as "the worst state in the United States". The group also humorously offered an unlimited offer for Danish cakes to "sweeten the deal".
The above proposal is presented as an effort to raise community funds. The group estimates that each Danish citizen only needs to a few glasses of latte and contribute about 200,000 kroner (27,675 USD) to save money to buy California. The group also committed to bringing the state a comfortable "hygge" lifestyle, bicycle lanes and signature dishes such as Smorrebrod sandwiches.
They even proposed renaming Disneyland "Hans Christian Andersenland" and imagined Mickey Mouse wearing a Viking hat: "What a great idea!"
Speaking to Politico over the weekend, the groups founder, Xavier Dutoit, said that if negotiations take place, LEGOs executives should be the ones to negotiate with the US. Why? They are used to handling children screaming for losing a LEGO player, so they can handle tense negotiations, Dutoit said.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump's idea of buying Greenland did not receive much support. According to a recent poll, only 6% of Greenlanders want to join the US, while more than 70% of Danish people are against selling the island.
