Ukraine's public debt increases by an average of 4-5 billion USD per month, according to calculations by Russian news agency TASS on August 30.
As of the end of August, Ukraine's total public debt was recorded at about 218-219 billion USD. This figure is expected to reach about 240 billion USD by the end of 2026 and at least 290 billion USD by the end of 2027.
Per capita, each Ukrainian citizen will bear about 8,500 USD in debt by the end of 2026 and about 10,400 USD by the end of 2027.
However, estimates by the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance are likely still lower than the actual demand for additional loans. Kiev needs at least 6-7 billion USD this year to finance military operations and pay for soldiers, while there are no domestic resources to compensate for this gap.
