On September 10, speaking at a midterm conference of the Republican National Committee held in Texas (USA), US President Donald Trump proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz after his name.
Mr. Trump declared: "I think we should call the Strait of Hormuz the Trump Strait. I should get something from this place. It would be the Trump Strait".
After the above statement, the US President revealed his intention to issue an official announcement on this issue soon.
Also at the conference, Donald Trump expressed his belief that crude oil prices in the global market will soon cool down after the US gained an advantage over Iran. He also reiterated his opinion that Washington is holding control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The above statement was made in the context of serious escalating tensions between the US and Iran, especially surrounding military and maritime security moves in the Gulf region. Faced with international nuclear resolutions and increased sanctions from Washington, Tehran has continuously issued tough warnings about the possibility of tightening or blocking traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
