Journey traces from history, bringing martyrs back

Việt Bắc |

Tuyen Quang - The excavation of 3 graves is expected to identify the names and bring the martyrs back to their families and homeland.

In the early days of September, in lands that once suffered fierce bombs and bullets, functional forces of Tuyen Quang province are still diligently breaking rocks, opening caves, following each trace to search for and bring back martyrs' remains.

In residential group 8, Binh Thuan ward, according to information provided by local people, around 1953, the Khe Cua area suffered a fierce bombing by the French colonialists.

A military unit suffered heavy losses, many officers and soldiers heroically sacrificed and may still be lying underground.

Mr. Nguyen Van An (Binh Thuan ward, Tuyen Quang province) said that the historical traces left behind show that this area may have fallen heroic martyrs who are still lying there.

Through field surveys, soil mushrooms appeared here, protruding about 3-5 cm above the ground, bearing signs of 3 long-standing graves.

With the hope of bringing the martyrs back to their families and homeland, excavation work is being urgently deployed.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Tiep - Deputy Head of the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains, Tuyen Quang Provincial Military Command - said that despite hot weather conditions and difficult geology, the forces are still determined to find traces with the goal of bringing martyrs' remains back to their comrades, to their homeland and motherland.

During the excavation process, functional forces exhumed 1 set of remains suspected to be martyrs' remains along with many artifacts. The excavation was carried out carefully and solemnly. At the same time, absolute safety was ensured to serve the verification and appraisal work later.

Along with the excavation, functional forces have also taken soil samples at the search locations to carry out professional steps. The artifacts will be studied and compared with relevant documents to determine the origin of the tomb.

According to the Provincial Military Command of Tuyen Quang, by the beginning of September 2026, the peak period of implementing the campaign "500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", the forces have searched and repatriated 59 martyrs' remains.

In the fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland, 4,267 martyrs sacrificed. Currently, forces have searched and repatriated 3,174 martyrs, and 1,093 martyrs need to continue to be searched and repatriated.

The search and repatriation of remains of fallen soldiers remaining is not only a task but also an order from the heart, a gratitude and repayment for the heroic sacrifices of the fallen soldiers.
