Vladimir Putin's assistant, Yury Ushakov, said Russia and the US will immediately begin preparing for the next meeting between the two leaders.
These comments were made after US President Donald Trump announced a potential summit after a phone call with the Russian leader on the morning of October 16 US West Coast time.
The two sides discussed many issues, including lifting tariffs and economic cooperation after the end of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Mr. Trump posted on Social Truth: "I just finished a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it was a very effective exchange. President Putin congratulated me and the US on the great achievement for peace in the Middle East - what he called the dream of humanity for centuries. I really believe that success in the Middle East will help the negotiation process to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine".
Mr. Trump continued: "We also spent a lot of time discussing trade between Russia and the US when the conflict in Ukraine ended. At the end of the call, the two sides agreed to hold a meeting between senior advisors next week. The US side will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with a number of other figures to be appointed later. The meeting location will be determined. After that, President Putin and I will meet at the agreed location - the capital Budapest, Hungary - to see if we can end the "not-grateful" conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Tomorrow, I will meet President Zelensky at the Buckinghamham Palace to discuss a phone call with President Putin and many other issues. I believe that today's discussion has made great progress".
According to assistant Yury Ushakov, the first phone call between the two leaders in nearly two months was "very useful".
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Budapest was ready to host the Russia-US summit and called the expected meeting "great news for peace-loving people in the world".
Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump last met in mid-August in Alaska (USA). This is the first direct meeting between the two leaders since 2019. Both leaders see the summit as effective, although no breakthroughs have been achieved.
The phone call between the two leaders comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and the US over Trump's proposal to provide Tomahawk long-range missiles - capable of hitting deep into Russian territory - to Ukraine.
Moscow has condemned the potential move and warned that it would destroy the diplomatic goodwill established between Russia and the US without changing the situation on the front line.
Kremlin spokesman Peskov said that transferring such weapons to Kiev would also force Moscow to take necessary retaliatory measures.
Moscow has hinted that since the Alaska Summit, there has been a significant decline in communication with Washington. However, Russian officials said the Alaska process was not over and the Anchorage spirit was liven.
