Mr. Trump threatens to revoke licenses of US broadcasters for reporting bad news

Châu Anh |

On September 18, US President Donald Trump announced that TV stations reported "negativity" about him being subject to license revocation.

US President Donald Trump has said many TV stations have content criticizing him. He mentioned Jimmy Kimmel - famous MC of the program Jimmy Kimmel Live! - and accused the presenter of slandering him for many years.

Kimmel is known for her satirical political comedy style, often mocking Mr. Trump in the show's opening skits. These clashes have become a hot topic on social media many times, causing the relationship between Mr. Trump and Kimmel to become increasingly tense.

Trump accused most major broadcasters of having 97% of his posts against him even though he did not provide any concrete evidence for the number.

He said: "They gave me all the bad news. I think maybe their licenses should be revoked.

However, current regulations do not allow the government to collect licenses for national broadcasters such as ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox for political views. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), only local stations need a license from the agency while national networks do not.

Trump's media threats have led to many calls to boycott Disney - owner of ABC - and other major media corporations for refusing to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel's program.

Former President Barack Obama criticized Trump's actions as "dangerful".
