RT reported on September 14 that the Russian Ministry of National Defense said that the Russian army attacked Ukrainian forces in Russia's Kursk province and released a video of the attack.
The statement of the Russian Ministry of National Defense stated that the air reconnaissance team of the Russian "North" group of forces operating on the border discovered a Ukrainian unit and "the detected targets were destroyed".
"Russian artillery leaves no chance for the enemy," the Russian Ministry of National Defence added.
Officials did not provide details on the exact location of the attack or the number of casualties suffered by Kiev.
The short black-and-white video shared by the Russian Ministry of National Defense, which appears to have been shot by a drone, shows a Ukrainian armored personnel carrier parked in a field near a rural road, surrounded by several infantrymen. The group takes a direct hit from a shell, sending a plume of fire and smoke into the air.
Sputnik quoted information from the Russian Ministry of National Defense as saying that in the Kursk direction in the 24 hours up to September 14, the Ukrainian army lost more than 300 soldiers and 15 armored vehicles, including 2 tanks; 5 soldiers were taken prisoner.
"During the day, the losses of the Ukrainian army amounted to more than 300 soldiers and 15 armored vehicles, including 2 tanks, 1 armored personnel carrier and 12 armored fighting vehicles, as well as 2 artillery pieces, 1 obstacle clearance engineer vehicle and 5 cars. Five Ukrainian soldiers were captured" - the Russian Ministry of National Defense summarized the process of repelling the Ukrainian army's attempt to invade the Russian province of Kursk.
Ukraine launched its largest ever offensive into Kursk Oblast on August 6 and initially made some progress with the support of some of Kiev's best units.
However, the Russian Ministry of National Defence claimed that the offensive had been stopped and Moscow forces had repeatedly pushed back opponents in several areas in recent days.
Ukrainian officials say the aim of the offensive is to gain a better footing for possible peace talks with Russia and to sow fear among the country’s population. Moscow, meanwhile, has ruled out any talks as long as Kiev’s troops remain on Russian soil, accusing Ukraine of indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
The Russian Ministry of National Defence estimates Ukrainian losses at more than 12,000 servicemen and hundreds of armored vehicles since the start of the Kursk operation.
