US Vice President warns of sending troops to Ukraine

US Vice President J.D Vance warned that the US could send troops to Ukraine if Russia is unwilling to seek peace with Ukraine.

The US could send troops to Ukraine and impose additional sanctions against Russia if Moscow does not negotiate a peace deal in a good manner.

Sharing with the Wall Street Journal, US Vice President J.D Vance noted that the plan to send US troops to Ukraine "is being considered" along with economic sanctions if a peace deal does not ensure long-term independence of Kiev.

"There are economic leverage tools, of course there are military leverage tools," Vance said.

The interview with the Wall Street Journal was published just hours before US Vice President J.D Vance prepared to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Summit for Security in Germany.

CNN noted that US Vice President J.D Vance's comments are different from recent statements from the White House, including President Donald Trump's statement that Ukraine "may one day belong to Russia". President Trump also held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week and said that peace negotiations would soon begin.

Mr. J.D Vance's statement is also opposite to US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Mr. Pete Hegseth said that the US will no longer prioritize the security of Europe and Ukraine.

After President Trump's announcement of peace talks in Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron shared in an interview with the Financial Times that Europe needs to strengthen its economy and defense as well as agreed with President Trump's stance that Ukraine's security is the responsibility of Europe. But Mr. Macron also emphasized that only Ukraine can negotiate peace as a party in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
