Slovakia will suffer the most damage from the EU's decision to stop importing Russian gas, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico shared.
"We will be the hardest hit country," he said.
The Slovakian leader criticized the EU's plan to end Russian gas imports as "a self-shooting in the knee" and "another consciously harmful decision due to obsession with Russia".
Mr. Fico said that he had spoken to the President of the European Commission about Slovakia's concerns regarding the ban on Russian gas. According to him, the Committee has received concerns from Slovakia and expressed sympathy for the country's stance.
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico also made some additional comments on Ukraine. "I think what we need in Ukraine is a quick end to the conflict. After the European Council meeting, I don't feel there is much interest in that," he said.
The Slovakian Prime Minister added that the conclusions of the European Council meeting did not clearly state the desire to put pressure on the sides in the conflict to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine as soon as possible. He supported Ukraine's prospects for EU membership, saying that Ukraine's membership in the bloc would benefit Slovakia.
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico also denied the possibility of meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Mr. Fico, the planned visit of Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini to Ukraine will be of symbolic significance while the talks with the Ukrainian Prime Minister scheduled to take place in the fall will have many meaningful contents.
