Amid the scandal surrounding his wife Lauren Sanchez's family, billionaire Jeff Bezos suddenly sold his lake villa in Seattle for $63 million, earning more than 25 million in just five years.
Jeff Bezos - founder of Amazon and now one of the world's richest people - seems to be entering a period of calculated "reset positioning", while his private life continues to be the focus of discussion with rumors that he and his wife are about to get into court for money.
According to Puget Sound Business Journal, Bezos sold the villa in Hunts Point, Washington - just 11km from Amazon headquarters in Seattle - for $63 million. The house is located on Lake Washington, and was purchased by him in 2019 for 37.5 million USD. It turns out that after 5 years, this deal has helped the American billionaire earn more than 25 million USD.
Notably, Bezos left Seattle in 2023 to move to Miami to live with his wife, journalist Lauren Sanchez. The sale of villas in Seattle - the "holy land" associated with Amazon's startup journey - is considered a signal that Bezos no longer intends to stick with the old headquarters.
Not only that, Bezos also sharply reduced its stake in the Amazon. According to this year's release, the 61-year-old billionaire now holds just 9.6% of the company's shares, down from 10.1% last year and down significantly from 43% when Amazon IPO in 1997. Over the past year, he sold more than 100 million shares - a sign that a large-scale financial plan is under implementation.
Of course, with assets of more than 220 billion USD, Bezos is not "lacking in money". But the decision to sell the house and withdraw capital from the Amazon coincided with his involvement in a lawsuit with his wife's brother, Michael Sanchez - who was accused of leaking private messages between Bezos and Lauren when she was still Patrick Whitesell's wife.
After losing the defamation lawsuit, Michael Sanchez was further required by the Los Angeles court to pay $182,374 in attorney fees and more than $8,000 in legal fees to Bezos and Lauren. In the latest file, the American billionaire's legal team has filed a request for enforcement.
For Bezos, every decision - whether selling a villa or suing his brother-in-law - seems to be in the meticulous financial plan of a man who has never stopped making money, even when he already owns a fortune that the whole world has to look down on.
