According to Xinhua news agency, Nepal police on August 27 (local time) said the death toll in the severe flood in northern Nepal has risen to 270 people.
Compared to the statistics on the same morning of 160 people, the total number of deaths in the flash flood across the Nepal - China border area has now increased by 110 people.
The latest report from the Nepal Tourism Board said that 644 tourists were confirmed missing after the flash flood. Among these are 127 Nepalese citizens and 517 foreign tourists from about 30 countries.
Functional forces are continuing to deploy search and rescue work in affected areas, in order to locate missing people and search for victims.
The Nepal National Disaster Mitigation and Risk Management Agency said that rescue teams used helicopters to bring 305 people to safety. About 7,451 security personnel were mobilized to participate in search and rescue operations.
On August 27, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed that her country would send crisis response experts to Nepal to support overcoming the consequences of the serious flash flood.
Earlier, on August 26, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed grief over the casualties caused by the serious floods in Nepal. He affirmed that Sri Lanka is ready to support rescue and disaster recovery efforts.
