The passenger ship sank while traveling from Santarem city to Vitoria in para, Brazil in the early morning of August 23.
AP news agency quoted local security agencies for para as saying that 15 people were rescued and 10 bodies were found, many of whom are still missing. Initial information from the agency said that 25 people had been brought ashore.
The cause of the ship sinking in the Xingu River has not yet been determined, according to Brazilian authorities.
Bruno Costa, a 29-year-old DJ who survived the shipwreck, described a chaotic scene where the ship broke apart and quickly sank.
He shared with the G1 portal that because there was a tarpaulin covering the rain, it was more difficult to escape. Bruno Costa said: "The plastic tarpaulin prevented many people from getting out. I saved a child about 2 years old, but neither I nor the child had a life jacket."
River travel is quite popular in the northern states of Brazil, where there are many Amazon rainforests and few roads.
Earlier this August, a cargo ship collided with a tugboat on the Amazon River, also in the state of para. In the accident, only 2 people on the boat were rescued, 9 people are missing.
