A British nuclear submarine equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles is believed to have been deployed in the Arabian Sea on March 21, amid rising regional tensions.
Accordingly, the HMS Anson submarine left Perth (Australia) earlier this month and traveled nearly 9,000km to reach this area. The ship is equipped with Tomahawk Block IV missiles and Spearfish torpedoes, allowing long-range attacks if the conflict escalates.
The British Ministry of Defense has not yet responded to the request for comment. However, the presence of the submarine is said to help Britain strengthen its deterrence capabilities and be ready for military scenarios in the Middle East.
According to sources, the HMS Anson has periodically surfaced to communicate with the British Standing Joint Operations Command in Northwood. Any missile launch orders, if any, will need to be approved by the British Prime Minister and transferred to the joint operations command.
This deployment took place after the British government allowed the US to use its bases to carry out attacks targeting Iranian targets believed to be threatening the Strait of Hormuz.
The appearance of a long-range attack weapon submarine in the Arabian Sea is seen as a sign that the parties involved are preparing for the possibility of an expanding conflict, in the context of continued instability in the region.
