King Bhumibol ascended the throne at the age of 18, in 1946. He was honored as the king of the people, contributing to promoting the industrialization of Thailand, bringing peace and prosperity to the Southeast Asian country while making Thailand a country with a modern economy.
It is expected that about 250,000 Thais, mostly wearing black, will attend the 5-day, $90 million funeral in Bangkok, starting on October 25. A large impersonation stand has been built for more than a year at Sanam Luang square near the Thai royal palace. The official cremation will take place at 10:00 p.m. on October 26.
According to Huffington Post, thousands of elaborate sculptures, works of art, fabric, fresh carpets and wreaths on the streets lead to the funeral area at Sanam Luang Square, Bangkok.
Officials from many countries, members of the royal family, Thai people and tourists are expected to attend the king's funeral.
