According to the Sudan Liberation Army/ cheating Organization (SLM/A) led by Abdelwahid Mohamed Nour, the entire village was buried with only one survivor remaining.
The disaster occurred after many days of heavy rain. SLM/A said the village was completely flattened, and called on the United Nations and international relief organizations to urgently support the search for the bodies of the victims, including men, women and children.
Ironically, many people who were fleeing the fierce fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF paramilitary force in the northern state of Darfur have taken shelter in the Marra Mountains. However, this land that was once lacking in food and medicine has now become the tomb of thousands of people.
During the two years of civil war, more than half of the Sudanese population has been severely starved, millions of people have had to flee their homes. The city of Al-Fashir, the capital of the northern state of Darfur, is still under shelling.
SLM/A urgently called on the international community to intervene, as on-site rescue forces were almost helpless in the face of the devastating scale of the disaster. We need equipment, manpower and emergency medical assistance to search and bury the victims, the group said in a statement.
While Sudan is still in the cycle of war, the landslide at Marra mountain has caused the country to suffer double disasters, both bombs and bullets, with losses beyond imagination.
