According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office on June 1, the decision was made after what Tel Aviv described as repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah and attacks targeting Israeli cities and citizens.
The statement said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Katz have ordered the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to launch attacks on targets that Israel calls terrorists in the Dahiyeh area in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.
Despite the ceasefire established in mid-April, the Israeli army and Hezbollah continue to engage in a firefight. Hezbollah has used low-cost suicide drones, easy to assemble but difficult to intercept by air defense systems. Attacks with this type of equipment have killed some Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon.
According to Lebanese government figures, the conflict has killed more than 3,370 people. Meanwhile, Israel said that 24 soldiers and 4 civilians of this country died in the same period.
Hezbollah's missile and drone launches also caused tens of thousands of Israelis in the northern region to evacuate their homes.
