On September 25, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang and the working delegation visiting Vietnam. This is the third time in two years that the Prime Minister has met with Mr. Daren Tang, demonstrating the increasingly close cooperative relationship between Vietnam and WIPO.
The Prime Minister thanked WIPO for its support in supporting Vietnam in integrating into a system of innovation and global intellectual property. The Prime Minister shared that Vietnam has gone through decades of war, occupation and embargo, but is still steadfast in the path of international solidarity, promoting multilateralism to solve global challenges. Vietnam identifies science and technology, innovation, green economy, digital economy and knowledge economy as the foundation for rapid and sustainable development, setting a double-digit GDP growth target for the period 2026 - 2030.
The Prime Minister emphasized that intellectual property is a strategic tool, Vietnam aims to upgrade the global innovation index from the current 44th position to the top 40 countries by 2030 and the group of 30 by 2045. The Politburo issued Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation. Vietnam is focusing on investing in modern infrastructure, training high-quality human resources and enhancing international cooperation.
The Prime Minister suggested that WIPO support Vietnam in many areas such as improving investment efficiency in science and technology, promoting the commercialization of research results, developing high-tech parks, cultural industries, responding to climate change, and at the same time arousing the creative potential of the younger generation.
WIPO General Director Daren Tang congratulated Vietnam on the 80th anniversary of the National Day, highly appreciated the efforts and strong political commitments in innovation. He cited the GII 2025 Global Innovation report, showing that Vietnam has increased its ranking rapidly, from 53rd in 2023 to 44th, ranking 2nd in the group of lower-middle-income economies. He said that Vietnam is a model of innovation in emerging economies and affirmed that WIPO will continue to cooperate closely, supporting Vietnam in implementing sustainable development goals.
