Jayjrion Rodriguez - a trainee sailor and aircraft dispatcher - was prosecuted under the Military Justice Code for 2 charges, including murder and manslaughter, related to the death of sailor Jesse Braswell on the US aircraft carrier Kennedy (USS John F. Kennedy).
According to the news site of the US Naval Institute, on August 19 (local time), the US Naval Criminal Investigation Agency (NCIS) accused sailor Jayjrion Rodriguez of serving on the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy of firing and killing his teammate.
On June 6, 2 sailors Rodriguez and Braswell were on duty in the port security force on the Kennedy ship. Here, Rodriguez was accused of shooting and killing Braswell.
Rodriguez was arrested immediately afterwards and detained before trial, and on June 11 was released on bail to await further investigation. The Virginia Head of Medical Examination Office later concluded that Braswell's death was a murder.
On July 29, the US Navy issued an official decision to prosecute Rodriguez. According to sources from the US Naval Institute, preliminary hearings are expected to be held in the next few weeks.
In addition to 2 charges related to Braswell's death, Rodriguez is also prosecuted for assault and endangerment due to negligence in 3 other separate cases.
