According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States and wishes to work with President Donald J. Trump's Administration to continue to bring relations between the two countries to stable, substantive, effective and sustainable development.
General Secretary and President affirmed that economic, trade and investment cooperation is one of the most important pillars of the two countries' relations, directly bringing benefits to businesses and people and contributing to the development of each country.
In the past time, Vietnam has made efforts to promote substantive cooperation activities, purchasing goods from the US to promote trade relations in a more balanced direction, while creating more orders, jobs and direct benefits for businesses and workers of the two countries.
Ambassador Jamieson Greer - Chief US Trade Representative - highly appreciated the concern of General Secretary and President To Lam and the efforts of the Vietnamese side to balance trade between the two countries. The Ambassador also said that the two negotiating delegations have made many efforts and attempts; so far, they have made much progress and are very close to the final result. USTR Chief said that when signed and put into practice, the reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement will continue to open up new opportunities and cooperation possibilities between the two countries.
After listening to the US Chief Trade Representative report on the positive developments in negotiating the reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement as well as some economic and trade issues of concern to the US, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed the fact that the two sides have achieved very positive results towards early signing of the Agreement, creating a stable and long-term framework for economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.
General Secretary and President To Lam also proposed that the US have an overall approach to existing trade issues, including issues related to investigations under Section 301 of the US Trade Act 1974. On that basis, General Secretary and President To Lam wished the two countries to continue to strengthen activities to promote substantive development of bilateral economic, trade and investment relations, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries.
