General Secretary and President To Lam will attend the high-level joint discussion session of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in the US, and pay a state visit to Canada.

On the afternoon of September 17, at the regular press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that General Secretary and President To Lam will attend the high-level discussion session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, bilateral activities in the US and a state visit to Canada at the invitation of Canadian Governor-General Louise Arbour from September 20-25.

Ms. Pham Thu Hang said: Since joining the United Nations in 1977, Vietnam-United Nations relations have been constantly strengthened and developed in many fields, from promoting sustainable development to maintaining international peace and security, and responding to global challenges.

Throughout the process of participation, Vietnam has proactively proposed initiatives and made practical contributions to common efforts; actively participated in taking on many important responsibilities at important agencies and forums of the United Nations; highly appreciated by the international community. Vietnam is continuing to run for membership and assume important roles at various mechanisms of the United Nations.

On the occasion of attending the United Nations General Assembly session, General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation will have bilateral activities in the US.

Regarding the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the two sides have maintained positive growth momentum. Political and diplomatic relations continue to be strengthened through exchanges and contacts at all levels. Economic, trade, and investment relations maintain growth momentum. Security and defense cooperation has achieved many positive results. Science and technology cooperation continues to expand to high-tech, semiconductor, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and high-quality human resource training.

Regarding the Vietnam - Canada Comprehensive Partnership, the two countries have maintained a stable and substantial development momentum; there is still much room for development. Canada is prioritizing the development of strategic mineral energy and artificial intelligence, high-tech agriculture. While Vietnam is promoting the upgrading of industry, developing the digital economy, and green economy. The similarity in needs, interests and development orientations has created an advantage for the two countries to bring relations to a new level in the coming time.
