On July 22 (local time), according to TASS news agency, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that President Donald Trump is "doing everything possible" to promote a peaceful solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but the negotiation process has not yet achieved the expected results.
Speaking at a hearing of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Waltz affirmed that the White House's priority is still to end the conflict through diplomatic solutions.
The President is doing everything possible to end the conflict," Mr. Waltz said.
According to the ambassador, although the US has made many efforts to promote dialogue, the parties involved are still not ready to move towards a final agreement.
We have not yet seen the parties reach a final agreement," Mr. Waltz said, while emphasizing that the US administration is continuing to put pressure and use all possible measures to promote the peace process.
Mr. Waltz admitted that the process of resolving the conflict is much more complex than initial assessments.
Previously, during the election campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly declared that he could resolve the conflict in Ukraine "in just 1 day" if he returned to the White House. However, according to Mr. Waltz, reality shows that this is a much more difficult task.
The President has realized that, despite the great efforts of him and his team, this is an extremely difficult and disappointing process," Mr. Waltz said at the hearing.
Ambassador Mike Waltz's statements were made in the context of the US continuing to play a mediating role in efforts to find a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In the past time, the US has repeatedly affirmed its desire to promote negotiations to achieve a ceasefire and move towards a long-term peaceful solution.
However, so far, the parties have not reached consensus on the basic conditions to move towards a comprehensive agreement, causing the negotiation process to continue to face many obstacles.
