On July 22, according to TASS news agency, Russian military expert Andrey Marochko said that some units of the Ukrainian army have begun to withdraw from front positions in the Zakharovka residential area, Kharkov province, as Russian forces continue to increase pressure from the Volokhovskoye direction.
Mr. Marochko said that after declaring control of Volokhovskoye, Russian forces quickly expanded military operations in the west and moved towards Zakharovka, an area near the fighting line between the two sides.
This military expert said that Russia's acquisition of control of some strategic highpoints in the region has made the defense capabilities of Ukrainian forces much more disadvantaged.
There has been information that Ukrainian units have left some front positions in Zakharovka after many strategic high points fell into the hands of Russian forces. This makes it disadvantageous to continue maintaining forces in the region," Mr. Marochko told TASS.
He assessed that the combat situation in the direction of Kharkov is tending to be more disadvantageous for the Ukrainian side.
Day by day, the tactical and combat situation for the Ukrainian command in this area continues to become more difficult," Mr. Marochko shared.
Previously, according to Mr. Marochko, immediately after declaring control of Volokhovskoye, Russian forces deployed attacks towards Zakharovka to expand the scope of control in the border area of Kharkov province.
Up to now, the Ukrainian side has not commented on the information released by Russian military experts, and has not confirmed the withdrawal of troops from Zakharovka.
Kharkov province has long been one of the areas of intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with continuous military operations.
