Chinese state media and a US official said that President Donald Trump and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping held a phone call on September 19 to seek an agreement to help maintain the operation of the TikTok application in the US as well as ease the trade deadlock between the two sides.
In the first call of the two leaders after 3 months, the potential deal about TikTok was at the top of the agenda, along with the commercial issue.
The phone call to discuss bilateral issues coincides with discussions on the possibility of holding a live summit between the two leaders on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in South Korea from October 30 to November 1.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a summit in South Korea and will visit China " Earlier next year", after a long phone call between the two leaders on September 19.
Sharing on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said that President Xi Jinping will come to the US "at the right time" and that the two sides have made progress in "approved the TikTok deal" to allow this application to continue operating in the US.
The Chinese side's statement about the phone call did not mention the visits, nor did it clarify the contents that Chairman Xi Jinping agreed with regarding the sale of shares in the US by TikTok's parent company in China. According to the announcement, Chairman Xi Jinping has asked President Donald Trump to avoid imposing restrictions to avoid damaging trade relations.
Other important exchanges include competition for semiconductors and other advanced technologies. The US wants China to buy more soybeans and Boeing aircraft. The US has also asked China to tighten exports of chemicals related to fentanyl.
