On September 10, the Russian Ministry of National Defense released a video of the attack by two Russian Alligator helicopters on Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Ministry of National Defence confirmed that two-seat Ka-52M helicopters successfully carried out attacks on Ukrainian servicemen and tanks in the Kursk region, adding that the enemy had no way to escape the "crocodile".
“According to the ministry's report, all targets were destroyed,” the officials noted, but did not provide the exact number of Ukrainian forces targeted.
The clip shared by the Russian Ministry of National Defence shows two helicopters flying at low altitude and firing a series of small missiles, apparently towards Ukrainian forces.
As the most modern attack helicopter in the Ka-52 series, the Ka-52M was only supplied to the Russian Air Force in early 2023. This helicopter, nicknamed the "crocodile", has improved optical and electronic systems as well as means to deceive enemy air defense missiles.
Ukraine launched its largest-ever incursion into Russia's Kursk province on August 6 in an offensive said to involve some of Kiev's best units, equipped with Western-supplied armour.
Although Kiev initially made some progress, Moscow said the advance was halted when Russian forces increasingly used drones, artillery and high-precision missiles to bombard Ukrainian targets.
The Russian Ministry of National Defence estimates Ukrainian losses at more than 11,800 servicemen and more than 800 armored vehicles since the start of the offensive in Kursk province.
