China: Father-in-law installs a personal elevator into his house to please his son-in-law

Hà Liên |

A resident of Chongqing, China installed a private elevator on his family's apartment on the 6th floor of an old apartment building after his son-in-law complained that he was "too tired" of having to climb stairs.

According to an article in National Business Daily on September 24, this elevator only goes straight to the apartment on the 6th floor of the family in the old 7-storey apartment building. The glass elevator was built on the outer wall of this apartment building last year.

The homeowner, surnamed Xiong, said his son-in-law complained of fatigue after climbing the stairs to get into the house.

However, this family is under pressure from the local government because the elevator was installed without permission from the planning unit. The neighbor in this apartment complex calls it a "silly elevator".

According to Zhou Yunxu, an official of the local planning department, apartment buildings built in the 80s and 90s of the last century did not require elevators, so people in many of these buildings use stairs.

However, in June, the Trung Khanh government allowed people to install elevators in old buildings without approval from the relevant planning unit. However, Mr. Xiong's family's elevator was not approved by local planning agencies.

According to Zhou Yunxu, Trung Khanh's planning department will investigate the incident
