China warns party members not to accept online lucky money for Tet

The Communist Party of China warned cadres and party members not to receive online lucky money in the form of money during the Lunar New Year.

SCMP reported that the Central Organizing Committee - the agency responsible for personnel of the Communist Party of China - warned that receiving or giving gifts online, especially through the WeChat platform, could violate the "red line" of party discipline, especially as the gifts could affect fair performance. Even bribery in the form of online lucky money will be strictly handled.

This move was made right before the 8-day Lunar New Year holiday, starting from January 28 this year. The Communist Party of China requires Party members and officials to remind their families to be cautious when accepting online lucky money, to avoid affecting their reputation and work.

The ability to deposit lucky money online on WeChat - allowing users to transfer money through this application to individuals or groups of conversations - has become a popular habit during the Lunar New Year in China.

This is a method used by many people to send wishes for luck and fortune, replacing traditional lucky money bags.

However, it is this convenience that makes online lucky money a discreet bribe method.

China has long been waging a strong campaign against corruption and has tightened discipline against party members in recent years. Any act of receiving gifts, cash, or assets that may affect the work of civil servants will be subject to strict disciplinary measures, from reprimand, probation, to positioning in the Party.

In particular, the China Central Disciplinary Inspection Commission (CCDI) has repeatedly warned party members to closely monitor their families and subordinates, requiring officials to be strict with themselves and those around them.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping also emphasized at a recent meeting that China will continue to step up the fight against corruption in the new year, and warned that if left unused in this war, there will be "disaster risks" for the country.

Chairman Xi Jinping affirmed that corruption is the "greatest threat" to the Communist Party of China and requested officials to maintain perseverance and determination in the fight against corruption. This war will not stop and will not be lenient with corrupt subjects.
