The National Meteorological Center of China on July 13 extended the orange warning, the almost highest level, for storms and floods, and the green warning for Typhoon Ba Vi, forecasting heavy rain in many areas.
China currently applies a four-level color-based weather warning system, in which red is the most serious warning level, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
At 8 am, Typhoon Ba Vi was deep inland in Luc An district, Suzhou city, Anhui province. The strongest wind speed in the storm's periphery reached 20 m/s.
The storm is expected to move in a northeast direction at a speed of 10-15 km/h, gradually weakening in intensity. By July 14, the storm is likely to pass through the Shandong Peninsula and move north of the Yellow Sea. After July 14, the storm will turn into an extratropical cyclone.
From 2 pm on July 13 to 2 pm on July 14, strong winds of level 6 to level 8 are forecast to appear in most areas of the eastern sea area of China.
At the same time, heavy to very heavy rain is forecast to pour down on areas of Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, as well as some areas of Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Guangdong, Hainan Island and Taiwan Island (China).
