Storm No. 4 (storm Narra) caused heavy rain and floods in Guangxi, forcing Hainan province, China to temporarily suspend ferry operations across the Quỳnh Châu Strait from August 25.

On August 25, according to Xinhua news agency, the National Meteorological Center of China (NMC) raised the storm warning from yellow to orange as storm No. 4 Narra and storm Saudel are forecast to make landfall in China in the coming days.

Previously, Hainan province, southern China, announced the temporary suspension of ferry operations across the Quỳnh Châu Strait from 9:00 am on August 25 due to the impact of Typhoon Narra.

Ticket sales at all ports along the strait will stop from 7 am on August 25. The suspension is expected to last 1-2 days. The time to resume operations will be decided based on weather conditions.

Quynh Chau Strait is an important transport route connecting Hainan Island with the mainland, serving passenger and vehicle transportation. The temporary suspension of ferry operations is a measure implemented by local authorities as Typhoon Narra approaches the area.

By 10:00 AM on August 25th, Typhoon Narra was located in the Gulf of Tonkin, about 65km west-northwest of Dongfang city, Hainan province.

NMC forecasts that the storm will move slowly in a northeast direction at a speed of 5-10 km/h, moving close to the northwest coast of Hainan before making landfall in the area between southeastern Guangxi and western Leizhou peninsula, Guangdong province. The storm is forecast to weaken rapidly after making landfall. Previously, the storm caused heavy rain and flooding in Guangxi. China has allocated 50 million yuan (7.37 million USD) from the central budget to support emergency relief in the locality.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Saudel is also heading towards China. By 11:00 AM on August 25th, Saudel was located in the northwest Pacific Ocean, about 920km east of Taipei.

NMC forecasts that Typhoon Saudel may enter the East China Sea on the morning of August 27th, then make landfall in the coastal area from central Zhejiang province to central Fujian province in the period from the night of August 28th to the morning of August 29th.

From 2 pm on August 25 to 2 pm on August 26, some areas in Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Hainan may experience heavy rain.

Previously, Typhoon Gaenari made landfall on the coast of Quanzhou city, Fujian province, at about 12:30 pm on August 24. The Chinese Ministry of Irrigation activated emergency response level IV before the risk of flooding in Fujian.

Thus, China is simultaneously responding to Narra approaching, Saudel heading towards this country and Gaenari just landing, increasing the risk of heavy rain, floods and strong winds in many areas.
