RT reported that on December 18, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Zalewski announced that the country had reached its limit in providing military aid to Ukraine.
Mr. Zalewski said that no MiG-29 aircraft from Poland will be transferred to Ukraine in the near future to ensure forces for the task of maintaining national security.
Kiev received a large number of MiG-29 fighter jets from Warsaw in early 2023. Zalewski stressed that the remaining MiG-29s cannot be transferred to Ukraine until Poland receives a squadron of US-made F-35s to replace them.
Also according to RT, the F-35 aircraft will not be delivered to Poland before 2026, although the country has placed orders before that.
The Deputy Minister of Defense stated that strengthening Poland's defense capabilities is the most important goal at the moment. Poland believes that it has provided everything it can, and even more.
“But we cannot provide any more… we have reached our limit,” Mr. Zalewski added. Poland, however, said it would continue to support Ukraine in the most positive way.
Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022, Warsaw has provided Kiev with more than 4.5 billion euros, or $4.7 billion, in aid, more than 70 percent of which was military aid, Germany's Kiel Institute said.
The MiG-29, despite being an old fighter model, still plays an important role in the Ukrainian Air Force thanks to its versatility and stable combat performance.
Ukraine has undertaken modernization programs to improve the MiG-29's electronics and weapons systems to enhance its combat capabilities and integrate them with modern NATO systems.
Moscow has said that military aid from the West would not change the outcome of the conflict.
The Kremlin has insisted that the goals of the military operation will be achieved, stressing that any solution must begin with Kiev ceasing military operations and calling on Ukraine to acknowledge “territorial realities”.
