According to VNA, on the morning of October 30 (local time), General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam met with Mr. Tony Blair, former UK Prime Minister and President of the Tony Blair Institute in London, within the framework of his official visit to the UK.
General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting Mr. Tony Blair again, welcoming the initiatives and cooperation activities of the Tony Blair Institute in supporting policy consulting, digital transformation, developing a green economy and enhancing governance capacity in many countries, including Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to promoting the strategic partnership with the UK, in which cooperation in digital transformation, renewable energy, innovation and public governance is considered an important pillar of cooperation, contributing to deepening the bilateral relationship.
Mr. Tony Blair expressed his honor to meet General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, congratulated Vietnam and the UK on upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Mr. Tony Blair affirmed that Vietnam is currently a bright spot in the world, emphasizing that the Tony Blair Institute is ready to increase support for Vietnam in areas with strengths such as policy consulting on building financial centers, digital transformation, green energy strategy, etc.
Mr. Tony Blair also said that the Tony Blair Institute is ready to support and advise Vietnam on development to avoid falling into the middle-income trap, as well as act as a bridge to connect large corporations to invest in the field of science and technology in Vietnam.
The former UK Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the cooperation between the Tony Blair Institute and its partners in Vietnam, and believed that in the coming years, more cooperation would be effectively implemented.
Appreciating Mr. Tony Blair's proposals, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam always welcomes and creates favorable conditions for specific and practical cooperation initiatives, in line with the country's development goals; suggested that the Tony Blair Institute continue to be a bridge to promote cooperation between ministries, branches, enterprises, research institutes and universities of the two countries in many fields.
