On July 24, 2025, answering a reporter's question asking to know Vietnam's reaction to the tense developments in the border area between Thailand and Cambodia, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang stated:
Vietnam expressed concern about the current tense developments in the border area between Thailand and Cambodia.
Thailand and Cambodia are neighbors of each other and of Vietnam as well as both ASEAN members. The most important thing at present is that the two sides are extremely restrained, do not use force, do not let tensions escalate, resolve peacefully and satisfactory disagreements on the basis of the basic principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Southeast Asian Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (TAC) and in the spirit of friendship and solidarity with ASEAN, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region.
On the morning of July 24, a shooting occurred at the Ta Muen Thom temple area between Thailand's Surin province and Oddar Meanchey province in northern Cambodia.
