Seeking opportunities to defend the Gold Medal
The Vietnamese golf team won 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal, 1 Bronze Medal at the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia in 2023.
The person who made the historic achievement (later called a miracle by Vietnamese golf experts) with the Gold Medal result was golfer Le Khanh Hung. This year, Khanh Hung continues to be an important player of the Vietnam Golf Team.
The Vietnam Golf Team coach confirmed that the best golfers will have the opportunity to attend SEA Games 33 and we determine the goal of trying to protect the gold medal. Since the beginning of the year, many Vietnamese golfers have been attended international awards to accumulate professional enhancement.
Each tournament has its own expertise and athletes compete mainly to accumulate and enhance their experience. Golf at the 33rd SEA Games will organize 4 competitions including men's individual, men's team, women's individual and women's team. When golf was officially included in the SEA Games, the national groups that always held the top spot in this sport were Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Of which, Thai and Malaysian golfers often won Gold Medals.
According to experts' forecasts, the Thai Golf Team has the advantage at the 33rd SEA Games because it will compete at home. We have won the Gold Medal at the 32nd SEA Games but still have to make a lot of effort to continue to achieve success.
In the current period, the best male and female athletes in Vietnamese golf all practice and compete to maintain the most stable state, Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong added.
Choosing talent to compete
At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnam Golf Team registered the competition team including Nguyen Anh Minh, Doan Uy, Nguyen Dang Minh, Le Khanh Hung, Doan Xuan Khue Minh, Le Chuc An, Than Bao Nghi.
In March 2025, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Golf Team announced the list of 16 players who will be trained, including Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung, Doan Uy, Nguyen Duc Son, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Le Minh Nghia, Pham The Nam, Do Duong Gia Minh, Ho Anh Huy, Le Richard Austin, Le Chuc An, Nguyen Viet Gia Han, Nguyen Bao Chau, Doan Xuan Khue Minh, Nguyen Vu Hoang Anh and Anna Le. However, they are not yet a player to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
The force screening for the coaching staff of the Vietnam Golf Team to register 7 official players (4 men's, 3 women's) to compete in Thailand is taking place.
Through research, the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) will take the competition results of athletes at the 2025 National Amateur Golf Tournament (taking place in June 2025) and rank on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the performance in key tournaments will be the professional basis for determining athletes for the 33rd SEA Games.
There have been many questions why the Vietnam Golf Association and the Vietnam Golf Team chose the results of the National Amateur Golf Tournament 2025 as a specialized basis to find players to participate in the 33 SEA Games. Some explanations said that the manager wants golfers to be present in Vietnam to compete in the national system of the most complete national system. At the same time, managers create fairness in selection for all athletes. The achievements of athletes at the National Championship 2025 is also a centralized basis.
After 2 years, Vietnamese golf continues to introduce new faces. 16 players on the list of the Vietnam Golf Team in 2025 are the best golfers, they have achieved many achievements from domestic to international.
