Dau Khuong Duy, Bang Gia Huy are expected to win more international Grandmaster (GM norm) standards from the results of the International Chess Tournament Grandmaster, Grandmaster 2026.
The first leg of the tournament was closed after the final round of the standard event, round 10, in Quang Ninh on the evening of June 30.
The competition results at the tournament are updated by the Organizing Committee on the FIDE International Chess Federation scoring system to calculate the Standard Grandmaster, International Master and update the international elo rating in August 2026.
After 10 standard chess games in the Masters table, Dau Khuong Duy had a total of 7.5 points, winning the No. 1 position in the men's event.
The young Vietnamese player maintained an unbeaten streak with 5 wins and 5 draws.
However, the result did not meet the conditions according to regulations for Dau Khuong Duy to be recognized as meeting the international Grandmaster standard.
Also at the tournament, Bang Gia Huy won second place overall with a total of 7 points after 10 matches. Gia Huy has not yet reached the standard of International Grandmaster even though he is very focused in the first leg of the International Chess Tournament for Grandmasters, Grandmasters 2026 in Quang Ninh.
In other competition results at the tournament, female player Nguyen Hong Nhung of host Vietnam achieved an additional international master standard (WIM norm) when achieving a total of 5.5 points and ranked second in the women's event.
According to the Organizing Committee, the entire tournament attracted 140 chess players from 21 countries and territories around the world to participate in Quang Ninh.
The list of participating chess players includes 9 international grandmasters, 15 international grandmasters, 15 FIDE grandmasters, and 9 international grandmaster reserves.
The second leg of the tournament will be held from July 2 to July 7, including grandmaster and international grandmaster categories, along with the FIDE (FM) grandmaster category.
Chess players Bang Gia Huy and Dau Khuong Duy still continue to have the opportunity to achieve more international Grandmaster standards in the next round.
