The 30th National Vovinam Championship in 2024 will take place at Quang Nam Provincial Gymnasium from September 30 to October 6, with the participation of 450 athletes from 34 units, provinces, cities and sectors across the country such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Thanh Hoa, Army, People's Police... and host Quang Nam.
Athletes compete in 48 sets of medals, including 26 combat weight categories and 22 forms. Of which, combat has 14 men's weight categories (from 45kg to over 92kg) and 12 women's weight categories (from 42kg to 75kg).
This 30th tournament was organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Training in coordination with the Vietnam Vovinam Federation (VVF) and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province to evaluate the training and education of athletes in provinces and cities during the year.
The tournament is a good opportunity and condition for athletes from provinces and cities to compete and improve their professional skills.
This is also an opportunity for experts to look for quality players to add to the national team in preparation for the Asian Vovinam Championship later this year in Thailand.
At the same time, this is also an opportunity for athletes to participate in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in 2025 if this Vietnamese martial art is included in the competition by the host.
The tournament has the participation of the 32nd SEA Games champions in Cambodia, such as: Le Thi Hien, Bui Thi Thao Ngan, Nguyen Hoang Du, Nguyen Thanh Liem...
In addition, the presence of many young players promises to bring excellent performances in this year's tournament. Notably, this year, the units have boldly promoted many young athletes aged 18-20 to compete.
Although young, most of these athletes have been trained through many years of competing in national youth Vovinam tournaments and national student Vovinam tournaments. Therefore, their level and competition experience have been greatly honed.
Among Vietnamese martial arts, Vovinam has developed on the largest scale with more than 2 million students in more than 70 countries and territories around the world; becoming a sport that receives enthusiastic participation from a large number of people; being included in the curriculum in schools, contributing to promoting the national martial art to spread and develop more and more.
