This year, the 2026 Southeast Asian Judo Championship is held from May 19 to May 24.
Host Vietnam's organizing committee said that the entire tournament attracted 7 teams from the Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and host Vietnam.
According to the program, the teams will be present at the tournament on May 19. On May 20, the teams will meet technically and balance to compete, then the Organizing Committee will hold the Opening Ceremony.
The tournament will be put into organizing sparring matches for the 2026 Southeast Asian Youth Championship and Championship system.
For the championship system, the content for men includes 55kg, 60kg, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg, 90kg, 100kg and over 100kg. Contents for women include 44kg, 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 70kg, 78kg, and over 78kg.
Athletes will also compete in kata (performance) with requirements including Nage No kata, Ju No kata, Kime No kata, Katame No kata, Kodokan Goshin Jutsu.
For the junior championship system, there are 8 men's and 8 women's weight classes against 5 kata events.
As the host, the Vietnamese judo team aims to top the achievement rankings and strive to win gold medals in the championship and youth championship systems.
The players who participated in SEA Games 33 of the Vietnamese judo team all participated in the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship. Preliminarily, the host Vietnam team will participate in all events of the championship and youth championship in Bac Ninh this year.
Last April, the Vietnamese judo team competed in the 2026 Asian Championship (including 3 athletes Nguyen Ngoc Diem Phuong, Ha Ngoc Chi, Lan Thi Ngan Ha) but did not win a medal. They continued to participate in the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship in Bac Ninh.
